Frequently Asked Questions
Is therapy online or in-person? How do I book?
I currently only offer online therapy. I use an online platform called Jane App to hold these sessions, the same software that you can use to book sessions. Booking on Jane allows you to see my current availability day-by-day each week. However, you can also email me at diemtherapy@gmail.com if you would like to book over email or have any questions about booking.
What is your session rate?
Each 50-minute therapy session is $150, including HST. My 15-minute consultation calls are free.
I have limited sliding-scale spots. Please feel free to reach out so we can discuss your needs.
What happens after I book my first appointment?
You will receive a welcome email from me with more information, including how to access our online sessions and how to pay session fees. I will do my best to make sure you get all the information you need upfront, but if anything is unclear, you can contact me via email at diemtherapy@gmail.com.
What payment methods do you accept? What about insurance?
I accept all major credit cards and Interac e-Transfer. Instructions for Interact e-Transfer will be included in the welcome email. Receipts will automatically be emailed to you.
Your extended health provider may cover my services under “Registered Psychotherapist.” Questions about your coverage can be answered by your provider. The payment receipts I send can be submitted to your provider for reimbursement if you have coverage. I am not able to offer direct billing to insurance providers.
What is your cancellation policy?
You can freely cancel and reschedule your appointment over email, so long as you provide at least 24 hours notice. If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment, you will be charged 50% of the full appointment fee. If you miss your appointment or send notice of cancellation within 2 hours of your appointment, you will be charged the full fee.
What does Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) mean?
Registered psychotherapists (RPs) have completed the training and application requirements necessary to be registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO), the body that regulates psychotherapy in Ontario. The CRPO exists to protect the public, and as such, clients can contact the CRPO if they are concerned about their therapist.
As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), I am licensed by the CRPO to practise psychotherapy while regularly receiving supervision from an RP who has met specific requirements. If you have any questions about my qualifications, please don’t hesitate to ask!
What therapeutic modalities do you use?
Short answer: acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), narrative therapy, and humanistic therapy — all to investigate relational patterns and values.
Longer answer: I would consider our brains to operate less like video cameras and more like pattern finders or puzzle solvers, in the sense that how we construct and make meaning of our lives is dependent on how we tell our stories — the particular way we arrange the facts. There is no singular truth but multiple stories that exist depending on which events we pick out and remember. Our work involves a combination of ACT defusion and acceptance, narrative therapy techniques, and humanistic affirmation to figure out which stories are workable, make us feel like our lives have meaning, and lead us to act in ways that match the values we want to embody.
