Motivation is Misunderstood

Little is more frustrating than having a long to-do list and lacking the motivation to do any of it. Especially in trying times, when so much power and agency are out of our hands, it can be hard to feel motivated to do much of anything. So if we are counting on a feeling of motivation to appear, we probably will not get anything done. The problem is that many of us misunderstand what motivation is. My 2026 New Year’s Resolution Bingo Card

Happy 2026! To kickstart the year, many people make New Year’s resolutions. However, we often abandon these resolutions by February. Due to the overwhelm of resolutions and the fleeting nature of motivation, I make New Year’s resolution bingo cards with micro goals each year. The ‘micro’ nature of the goals combats the overwhelm, and the bingo format gamifies the resolutions enough to keep me motivated to complete them.
